Transitioning out of the Magic Merlin Sleep Suit

Transitioning out of the Magic Merlin

One of my favorite baby items is the Magic Merlin Sleep Suit! We used it as long as we could but I knew it was getting close to the time we should transition Bella out of it. I was terrified! She slept SO well in it but it was time to size up and I felt that she needed to be able to have a little more movement while she slept.

In order to still give her a little bit of the weighted feeling I dressed her in a footie PJ and then layered a thin sleep sack under a thick sleep sack. The thin sleep sack was also a little smaller than the thick one (I think it was a size Small and the thick one was a Medium) I did this so she would feel a little more snug when she moved her legs around. The first night was a bit tough. As expected- she woke up around 2am- CRYING. I knew that what I did in this moment would set the tone for the rest of the transition. So, I referenced back to my Taking Cara Babies packet and repeated the steps we had done in the past. I snuck into her room (lights still off) shushed her, put my hand on her chest until she calmed (only stayed in there about a minute) and then snuck out. She has been without a pacifier for a while so I did not give her one. She then cried a few minutes later so I waited a little longer this time and then repeated the steps. After going in a couple times she eventually calmed herself and fell back asleep. She has been sleeping great since.
