In the months leading up to my delivery date I wanted to make sure I purchased/registered for everything and anything that would make the first few weeks with a newborn easier. Here is a full list of everything that I think is a necessity and will save you from last minute amazon orders or cvs runs.

Sleep

Swaddles- I purchased sooo many swaddles before Bella was born because I wasn't sure which one would work best for us. These velcro swaddle blanket sacks made it so easy for us to keep her tucked in and comfortable for naps and bedtime.

As soon as she outgrew the swaddleMe sacks we started using these Halo sleep sacks.

Muslin Blankets- These work great as light weight swaddles and can be easily used as a nursing cover, carseat cover, or on the floor for playtime.

Noise Machines- Babies love noise machines! Not only does it help soothe them when they are crying but helps them sleep better. We got both and like them for different reasons. The baby shusher is loud and perfect for travel, however, in my opinion it is only good for temporary use and not nap/bedtime. The baby soundspa is battery operated, lasts for hours, and gets really loud so it is the perfect sound machine for sleep.

Magic Merlin- Once your baby is ready to transition out of the swaddle we found the Magic Merlin to be the perfect solution.

Bassinet/ Pack n Play- Although a bit pricey the 4 moms pack n play is amazing. It folds up easily and comes with a bassinet piece that your baby can sleep in before transitioning to the bottom portion. You can easily take it with you over to your friends/familys house and set up a perfect spot for them to nap.

Monitor- Having a reliable high quality monitor is key to piece of mind while your baby is asleep. We love this one because it is easy to attach to the crib/ pack n play and the picture quality is fantastic.

Black out Curtains- Before getting these we spent so much money on curtains that claimed to be "Black Out" and ended up using thumb tacks to hang towels over the windows to make it dark. These curtains are so easy to use since they suction cup to the window and are perfect for travel. We ended up buying a second set for our room since we liked them so much. They even work well under shutter windows!

Soothie- We love these because they add a little extra weight to the binky so it is a little harder for it to fall out. It also seems to drop on the floor less since it is attached to the toy.

Health

Diaper Cream- Diaper rash is so frustrating and having a reliable gentle booty cream is so important.

Diaper Cream Applicator- Getting diaper cream on your fingers is annoying to get off. We love our butt paste applicator.

Gas Drops- Our little one was so gassy and fussy we were looking for anything that would help soothe her tummy. These were recommended by her Dr. and worked so well. I was thankful that we already had these on hand when the Dr. suggested them so we didn't need to make a last minute stop with the crying baby.

Blankets- We love having a variety of small blankets around the house. It makes it easy to not have to search down one or quickly wash it if it gets dirty. The cotton blankets are also great for swaddling in the early days or to use on the couch to protect it from spills and spit-up.

Burp Cloths- Some babies don't spit up too much but ours would spit up constantly. I highly recommend getting multiple packs of burp cloths that you can leave around the house and you don't have to constantly do laundry. We got a mix of nice ones and cheep ones but these are definitely our favorite.

Nail file- We would cut Bella's nails regularly but they were still so sharp. These helped make them round and you can put a couple in the diaper bag and a couple on the changing station.

Nail Cutters- Cutting your baby's nails is tough and if you don't cut them, they end up scratching themselves. Since these clippers have a little magnifying glass it makes it easy to see their tiny little nails.

Boogie Bear- Getting the boogies out of babies tiny noses is difficult. This really made it easy for us.

Tylenol- Although you hopefully won't have to use this for a while it is nice to have on hand when you need it. As always- get your drs approval and dosage.

Bottles- Regardless of if you decided to breastfeed or not, I recommend having some bottles on hand. We love these from Dr. Brown and specifically love that this set comes with multiples sizes of bottles as well as nipples.

Bottle Brush- You are going to need a specific brush to clean your bottles with.

Bottle Dryer- After all the hard work you put in cleaning your bottles you will need to dry them. This rack allows them to air dry easily and looks really cute.

Wipe Holder- Having a wipe holder makes it easier to pull wipes out and helps keep the moisture in.

Travel

Stoller- We LOVE the travel systems. Its an easy all in one car seat/ stroller that you can clip out of the carseat base and straight into the stroller base. This one folds up so smoothly and with little effort.

Extra Base- We got a couple extra bases so we would not have to keep taking the base out every time we wanted to use another car.

Car Mirror- I love having a mirror facing the little one so I can look back and check on her. My tip is to make sure your headrest detaches. If it doesn't, it might be hard to attach the mirror.

Travel noise machine- When it is time to get out of the house the last thing you want to be worried about leaving is the noise machine. I recommend getting a small separate one that you can keep in your diaper bag and have ready when needed. This one is small, gets loud, and plays great sounds.

Stroller Cover- I love the stretchy soft material of this cover. It is a great way to keep the sun off your little one and limit the amount of people trying to interact with your baby while they are resting. It also doubles as a nursing cover.

Diaper Bag- When you are trying to get out of the house with your little one, be sure to bring a diaper bag that can fit all of your necessities. This one is trendy and has a bunch of compartments for everything you need to bring.

Travel Fan- A portable fan is a great addition to your baby's carseat/ stroller especially for hot summer days. This one is rechargeable and the blades are covered so your little one won't ruin it the first time you use it.

Bedroom

Humidifier- We run our humidifier nightly. Having a large humidifier will save you time in having to constantly refill the water.

Changing Pad- A comfortable place to change your baby's diaper will make the experience much more relaxing for them.

Boppy- Although I did not use the Boppy for nursing, it was great to have when we were practicing tummy time and helping her sit up.

Changing Pad Pillow- This helps support their little head while getting changed and adds an extra layer of comfort for them. We got a couple of these and put them at all of our changing stations. This one is organic and easy to wash incase it gets spit-up on it.

Bath Stuff

Bath Petal- When it came time to give our little one a bath, we wanted her to be extra comfortable and we were nervous about putting her in the giant bathtub. We found the bath petal really helpful for sink baths as it adds a little cushion to the hard surface. We plan to continue to use it in the bath as she outgrows the sink.

Baby Bath- As soon as Bella outgrew the sink and was able to sit up on her own we started using this inside the bath tub.

Bath Towel- Hooded bath towels allow babies to warm up quickly after the bath.

Bath Shampoo/ lotion- You will want to have some soap/lotion/shampoo on hand once you get home from the hospital and it is time to give the little one a bath. We love the smell of this and it makes her skin super soft.

Toys

Lovevery- If you don't buy any toys, sign up for this subscription box. The toys are age appropriate and helpful to parents trying to figure out how to encourage their new baby's to play and practice new skills.

Sophie Chew Toy- This chew toy has been around for years. It is easy for babies to hold and feels good on their teething gums.

Banana Teether- We love this teether! It is easy for babies to hold and feels good on their tender gums.

Black and White Books- Babies love black and white pictures. These will keep your baby entertained for the first few months.

Kick-n-play- This was another favorite for us when we needed to put the baby down for a minute. She loved talking to the hanging toys and watching the piano keys light up. It also grows with your baby so they can continue to play with it even when become more active.

Misc.

Onesies- Have a couple of these in each size for when the baby comes home. You can always add more later when you figure out what style you like or need based on the weather.

Baby Swing- Although we did not use a swing for sleep, it was extremely helpful to have when you needed a break from holding the baby. It gives the baby some comfort and is also very entertaining for them.

High Chair- You won't be using this for a few months but it will be nice to have it ready to go as soon as you start solids.

  1. hi, thanks for writing this blog i found it very helpful but one comment, it looks like some links didn't show up, can you either reattach the links or just the names/brand names of the items so I can look them up and possibly add them to my registry?
